The Supreme Court today noted that a “fair and transparent mechanism should be adopted to appoint the best political person with strong character who can make independent decisions without being influenced”.

The Constitutional Bench composed of five judges led by Justice K M Joseph, noted today said that its endeavor is to put a system in place so that the "best man" is selected as the CEC.
The bench, also composed of the justices Ajay Rastogi, Aniruddha Bose, Hrishikesh Roy and C.T. Ravikumar, said that there is some allegation against the PM and the CEC has to act, but the latter is weak-kneed and does not act.
The bench orally observed that committees say dire need for changes, and politicians also shout from rooftop but nothing happens.
